Online escort agencies like the Emperors Club are alive and thriving in South Florida, where they operate freely..

In light of the bombshell federal wiretap case that ensnared New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer — and referenced Miami escorts — a glimpse into South Florida’s lucrative online escort industry reveals it is thriving and operates without much enforcement.

”We don’t actively investigate escort services,” Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Alesia Russell said. “We wouldn’t know unless there was a tip generated. Then we would check.”…

A check Tuesday of cityvibe.com and eros.com — sites where escorts and their companies post ads — showed 804 listings for female prostitutes in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. One site advertising male escorts listed 80 South Florida providers on Tuesday.

And that’s only three websites — all types of escorts also place not-so-discreet ads in local magazines, newspapers and elsewhere on the Internet……

”When the FBI gets interested in an escort agency, it is because of money laundering, not prostitution,” Hof said.

On a local level, authorities say it’s easier to pick up a few hookers every night along Federal Highway than to take down a booming Internet sex company……….READ FULL STORY http://www.bunnyranch.com/news/internetescortsites/Internet%20escort%20sites%20are%20rarely%20policed%20-%2003-12-2008%20-%20MiamiHerald_com.htm

NEW YORK (CBS) ― In a city that seems to have everything, it’s amazing what we’ll still be surprised to find. Take for example what CBS 2 HD recently uncovered going on in the back of a pizzeria.

Let’s just say it’s hotter than the pizza served up front.

On the outside, Cordatos looks like your ordinary pizzeria, but inside customers are offered something way too hot and spicy to be found on the menu.A walk through the restaurant past the pizza ovens, leads to a heavy soundproof door, where inside the back room $10 buys you a few moments of lap dancing by barely dressed exotic dancers, a dance too graphic for most newscasts.

“When you are in the Big Apple anything and everything goes,” one patron said.

The anything and everything on this menu includes extremely close body-to-body contact during the lap dance. Judging from the crowds CBS 2 HD saw during our hidden camera investigation, it’s a popular pit stop just blocks from ground zero, where construction workers and Wall Street traders find a slice of pleasure in the least likely of places.

“The guys go at lunch time,” one man said. “It’s not a bad thing either, relieves a little pressure.”

So is this New York City’s best-kept secret? Apparently not, especially to members of the NYPD’s vice unit. Three years ago, several of the dancers were arrested and charged with prostitution.

While Cordatos is licensed to serve alcohol, dancing falls under the city’s Cabaret Law, which requires a separate license, which the pizzeria does not have.

Two Israeli nationals were arrested on suspicion of running a massive Palm Springs prostitution ring that employed more than 240 women in several Western states and generated millions of dollars, authorities said.

The men operated Elite Entertainment, which posed as an escort service in online and newspaper advertisements, according to court documents.

For at least three years, the business managed more than 80 phone lines, where clients across California, Nevada, Oregon and Arizona could call an 800 number and request an escort. The suspects would then dispatch prostitutes, who charged between $200 to $2,000 for sexual services, Riverside County Sheriff Bob Doyle said Monday.

Boaz Benmoshe, 44, and Ofer Moses Lupovitz, 43, were among seven people arrested last week for investigation of pimping, pandering, perjury, loan fraud, money laundering, falsifying income tax returns and grand theft, Doyle said. He described Benmoshe and Lupovitz as the ringleaders.

Authorities say the suspects used the money to fraudulently secure loans for million-dollar homes around the Coachella Valley.

“They were living large,” Doyle said.

During a 2½-year probe, undercover detectives called for escorts who worked for Elite Entertainment to be sent to hotel rooms in several locations and arrested them after money was exchanged for the promise of sex.

Authorities also seized about 15 computers and $5 million in unspecified assets. Officials said the investigation was continuing and that more arrests were likely……….READ FULL STORY http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2006-08-15-prostitution-ring_x.htm

Evans said the enforcement took place on Thursday & Friday night after several weeks of investigation. Officers identified the women as escorts on Craig’s List on the Internet. Male undercover officers contacted them via cell phone and arranged meetings. At those meetings, and sometimes during the preliminary cell phone conversations, the UC officers successfully negotiated sexual services for money. Most would only talk “business” face-to-face, Evans said. One woman, however, actually advertised sex for money on her web page. One customer that was seeking the services of one of the escorts on Thursday night turned out to be an off-duty Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputy assigned to the jail. He was cited for solicitation. In reality, he had been making the arrangements with an undercover female deputy that answered the escort’s phone after deputies arrested the escort. The off-duty officer was issued an appearance ticket for the misdemeanor ordinance violation and deputies impounded his vehicle. The off-duty officer has had his police powers temporarily removed and is now subject to departmental discipline. “Clearly, people from all walks of life engage in this type of activity,” Evans said. “It is always disappointing when you catch one of our own, but he certainly will be treated no differently than anyone else we cite for the same offense.”………READ FULL STORY http://metrodetroittoday.com/Metro_Detroit_News/Metro_Detroit_Crime_and_Police_News/Deputy_One_Of_18_Arrested_In_Prostitution_Sting/
